CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.7.2: Write informative/explanatory texts to examine a topic and convey ideas, concepts, and information through the selection, organization, and analysis of relevant content.

This set of resources includes the following:

  1. Power Point: "The Kingdom of Mali"- discusses the origins of Mali and the legend of Sundiata, the gold and salt trade, the spread of Islam, and the reign of Mansa Musa
  2. Read and Draw Activity: A Journey to Mecca- students listen to the story of Mansa Musa's Hajj to Mecca and participate in a "Listen! Write! Draw!" Activity (see Romulus and Remus Comic Strip Activity for tips)
  3. Mansa Musa Sensory Figure- Students use information gathered from  their "Listen! Write! Draw!" Activity to create a sensory figure (see Sensory Figure for tips)
  4. Mansa Musa Writing Activity- Students construct a paragraph describing the lasting effects of Mansa Musa's epic Hajj
